Another blow for Iraq war apologists
The BBC report on further revelations from behind the scenes on the decision to invade Iraq that add to the case against Tony Blair and his government.
They report former MI5 boss Baroness Manningham-Buller as stating very clearly that Iraq posed no threat to the UK when Tony Blair took Britain to war in 2003. She added that the service advised war was likely to increase the domestic threat and was a "distraction" from the pursuit of al-Qaeda.
On both counts history has proven the advice to be correct. However, the significance is that the revelations once more underlines the extent that the British public and Parliament were lied to by the Blair

Same goes for the USA with respect to Libya - "... Libya posed no threat to the USA when Cameron/Clegg took Britain to war in 2011..."
Yet Cameron and Clegg expected the USA to get involved in Libya. cw

The difference is of course that Clegg and Cameron did not argue that Libya was a threat. Bush and Blair were very clear that the main reason for invading Iraq was because it posed a substantial threat to the west. On this evidence that was a lie.
