The white supremacist and the BNP

This morning's Guardian has an interesting article on links between a white supremacist who killed a security guard at a Holocaust memorial museum in the US and the British National Party.

The papers says that James Von Brunn, a longtime antisemite, had attended meetings of the American Friends of the British National party (AFBNP), which was set up to raise funds from far-right activists in America:

Mark Cotterill, who ran the US-based organisation before it folded in 2001, said: "He did attend meetings. I have just checked my database and he is down as 'meetings only', so he was not a major donor, although he may have put some money on the plate when it was passed round."

The AFBNP treasurer, Todd Blodgett, also told the Washington Post that he and Von Brunn had attended fundraising meetings in Arlington County. The BNP leader, Nick Griffin, spoke to at least two AFBNP meetings and said the money raised by the organisation made a "significant contribution to the BNP's [2001] general election campaign".

Yesterday a spokesman for the party said: "You get a lot of people coming to meetings but I don't think you can blame us for that. Even if he did go to meetings, it was nothing to do with us."

However, anti-racism campaigners said Von Brunn's links to the BNP underlined its extremist agenda. "It is clear that Nick Griffin is at the centre of an international network of white supremacists," said Dan Hodges, of Searchlight. "The BNP must explain the full extent of his organisation's links with this antisemitic gunman."
Comments:
This makes it all the more obvious that the people of Wales, the U.K and Europe need to work together to tackle the BNP, and stop their racist and facist views being spread, acted upon and supported.

Jenny, does that mean we have to help other European countries sort out their racists and fascists?

Further European interaction has been one of the reasons people are voting for them.

I'm unsure what Europe can do to help? Invade maybe?

Yesterday, I posted a comment to the S W Evening Post which included the following observation: "Nick Griffin is worse than a racist. Nick Griffin is a racialist. Griffin attends white supremacy conventions in the USA and he preaches white supremacy." The Evening Post did not publish my comments.

We do have a problem in the UK of how to fight Fascism. If we go on the offensive, we allow the BNP to play the victim, but if we engage them, we give them the legitimacy they crave.

The only way to defeat them is with a positive, rather than a negative campaign. We need to provide a credible opposition, which sadly collapsed in the face of expenses rows and attempted Coup d'etate from inside the Labour Party.

the above comments on the evening post are spot on....they run all kinds of vile comments from bigoted bnp supporters.....but post if you post truthful comments about griffin being a holocaust denier (which he is) and the bnp being full of anti-semtic nazis (which they are) and the post doesnt want to know!!!

Be interesting to know who it is exactley that edits comments on the post and on its website??

On the subject of the rise in support for fascism in parts of the uk if the govt built more social housing, did something meaningful to tackle unemployment instead of attacking the unemployed and did something to reduce the growing gap between rich and poor in the uk support for the bnp would probably drop as quickly as its grown!

I'm glad that 'anonymous' finds this a matter to laugh about. As we know, the two seats that the BNP have won in European Parliament gives them more power than they have had before, therefore, within the EU, we need to work together to ensure that they have as little powers as possible!

The British National Party has denied being homophobic and sexist, following a Trades Union Congress decision to recognise it as such.
Delegates at the TUC's annual conference also decided to campaign for a ban on BNP members working in the public sector in professions such as teaching and the civil service.
