Yes he did!
This is the situation as it stood at 8am this morning. I really do not need to add anything except that the hopes and dreams of many Americans and much of the free World now rests on the shoulders of this extraordinary politician.
I thought about staying up to watch the results coming in but in the end I was just too tired, and let us face it, the one part of the political process I hate the most is the counts. Nevertheless it was a pleasure to wake up to this landslide victory.

I wonder when we will have a black Pope?
Great Day for America; I think the World is now a safer place to be.

yes in the end it turned into a rout didnt it! McCain's lurch to the right with his ill advised choice of the repellant palin as his running mate came back to haunt him as young voters and independent voters went for the obama/biden ticket in droves.
Let us hope obama uses this clear mandate - dont forget the democrats had a good nite in both houses too - to push through the sort of radical economic change that will be needed if tens of millions of americans are to be pulled out of poverty and given health coverage and if the obscene gap between rich and poor in the US that has opened up under the disastrous premiership of bush is to be narrowed! Not to mention bringing a speedy end to the disastrous and illegal occupation of Iraq and working with the rest of the world to tackle climate change!!!!!!
Highlight of the nite? Surely the interview with jessie jackson who was on the balcony when MLK was murdered 40 years ago!!!!!!!!
Leigh, swansea.

Looks like you avoided the schoolboy error of having something embarrassing displayed on your taskbar when taking a screen grab - good work! :)
The people of America have spoken; they have elected the first Black President of the United States of America. Both sides fought a hard and decent fight, and now it is time that all Americans unite behind their new leader, President Obama, and give him and his team their full support in the days and months ahead.
But we should not forget that President Obama is not so unique as some of my Welsh friends think. There are many industrious and self-sacrificing Black American leaders currently serving the American public. There are black Americans serving as Mayors, and there are countless other examples of Black Americans serving the American people - a Black American leads the American State Department, Clarence Thomas is a Chief Justice on the U.S. S. Ct., and the previous head of the State Department was a black American. The Nation’s Capital has a Black Mayor. The list is actually endless.
Of course we should look beyond the colour of a person’s skin and look to them as leaders for what they seek to give to their country. President Obama wants to bring good change to America; he seeks to look beyond things that can divide a great nation to build a nation where all can achieve the American dream.
As a Welshman and as an American I am proud of my country, and my new President.
But beyond all the hoo-ha and hype, democracy won on November 4, 2008.

Well spotted, I'd tend to paste into "Paint" and then crop and save.
Just incase anything naughty on the toolbars.
