A glimpse of the dark ages

"If a woman goes back to a man's room she has responsibility for her actions. What is she asking for? A cup of tea?"

Tory MP Ann Widdicombe on date rape quoted in today's Western Mail.

Discuss!

Comments:
A senior professional friend of mine told me once that at his place of employment that they frequently had politicians as visitors and that the only one who ever asked the most relevant probing questions for the benefit of the less privileged of the general public was Ann Widdecombe who made a really big impression by her genuine concerns. She surprised them all. What she has now told the "Western Mail" is bound to upset the politically correct brigade who smugly and boringly rant on about buying their Fair Trade shopping from Charity Organisations. I don't quite agree with Anne Widdecombe on this, or many other things, but well done Anne Widdecombe - at least she says it honestly as it really is! A lot of Wales Assembly Members, especially the women AMs, could learn quite a lot from Ann Widdecombe.

Well, if you voluntarily go somewhere then you are responsible for that, and you are responsible for your own actions in that place.
That much is obvious.

What this quote appears to suggest though is that by doing so you are leading the man on and are therefore responsible for their actions?
I know some women believe men to be inferior, but come one, we are still responsible for our actions. If a woman says no, even if you think she led you on, it still means no and to have sex then is still rape.

"If a woman goes back to a man's room she has responsibility for her actions."

This is entirely true. Of course she has responsibility for HER actions. The problem is caused when she is expected to have responsibility for HIS actions too.

I remember the staggering pronouncement of a High Court judge in a rape trial some years ago; -

"When a woman says 'no', she means 'yes'."

I believe the Western Mail was quoting from the Indy, which started the current debate with an interview with Helen Mirren.

I am not denying the seriousness of the question, but it is one more example of an obsession with sex on the part of the new editor of The Independent. This is rather worrying.

"If a woman goes back to a man's room she has responsibility for her actions. What is she asking for? A cup of tea?"

Actually - the answer could be yes!! Why does going back to a guy's house automatically mean she wants sex? She may very well want to get to know him better by just chatting over a cuppa. Trouble is - we women have to spell it out to men as they invariably misconstrue what we mean!

Woof woof stupid bitch.

Or the very slightly more intelligent response: she's celibate so is not entitled to an opinion.

I've met Widdecombe. She was very sniffy indeed at me. She gives women who love cats a bad name, because she doesn't love people too.
