Plaid put their foot in it
Much is written about Liberal Democrat leaflets, often unjustly, however, I am not so sure if the same critics will be featuring the latest offering from Plaid Cymru in the Cathays ward of Cardiff in their pantheon of misleading literature.
The nationalists have circulated a newsletter entitled Cathays Voice in which they claim that due to the intervention of Plaid Cymru, Government plans to close the City's Salisbury Road Post Office have been postponed until after the May local elections. Except that it is not true.
The Government have in fact told the Post Office to postpone new announcements due in April so as not to impact on Council elections. Those closures which have already been announced, including those affecting the City and County of Cardiff, are to go ahead according to schedule.
This blunder could be dismissed as party politicking if it was not for the fact that the consultation period on this Post Office closure still has a week to run. Those people who are genuinely concerned about the future of Salisbury Road Post Office are worried that Plaid's leaflet will prevent local residents objecting to the closure on the grounds that they believe the facility is already safe when it is clearly not.
An apology and an urgent correction from Plaid is called for surely.

Well perhaps they should communicate more with their colleagues across the border in RCT who were banging on about this Labour electioneering tactic in the Council Chamber lats week.
Mind they were left a bit red faced there too when it was pointed out that a motion they had put forward demanding RCT Council press the Government to stop the closure programme in fact only listed 15 out of the 17 POs marked for closure in RCT.
They were accused of not caring about the other two / not being able to count - take your pick! Because they had all signed the motion they had no-one left who could move an amendment from the floor as required by standing orders there.

I can concur with Karens post and add a bit.
I moved a motion to remove the words"Post Office Ltd" from the earlter Labour motion calling on them to stop closing PO's as it is indeed the Labour Govt. who actually own over 50% of the P.O. Ltd. Plaid Cllrs refused to second it as they said their following motion covered that issue. I did point out to them that their simple arithmetic was flawed and that their motiobn would need to be withdrawn! So instead of getting a correctly worded opportunity to ask the real culpits of this closure fiasco the RCT council ended up shooting the messinger!
It would be quite funny if it were not for the misery that Plaid and Labour both heap on those they attempt to represent.

I moved a motion to remove the words"Post Office Ltd" from the earlter Labour motion calling on them to stop closing PO's as it is indeed the Labour Govt. who actually own over 50% of the P.O. Ltd.
