Up North

I am in the north and about to set out for the Eisteddfod so blogging will be light. I note however that this morning's Western Mail reveals that things are still not all sweetness and light in the Labour Party over their coalition with Plaid Cymru.

They tell us that in a message sent to Welsh MPs, Merthyr Tydfil MP Dai Havard writes that he is “not interested in inclusive politics” and that Labour needs to address the fact that “we now have Nat [Nationalist] Ministers delivering a Labour manifesto with Labour money”:

Several Labour MPs spoke publicly of their opposition to a deal with Plaid, but it was approved by a special party conference in Cardiff last month.

Since then there have been several low-level swipes at Plaid from Labour MPs, including an Early Day Motion calling for changes to bilingual tannoy announcements on trains.

The latest flashpoint, and the ostensible reason for Mr Havard’s email, is confusion over plans to allow further education (FE) colleges to award foundation degrees.

This may be the first of many such 'leaks'.
Comments:
you mean to say Dai H has actually got out of his fatigues and is not playing soldiers. If he paid as much attention to the needs of merthyr as he does to other things it would be a change.
When you look at the tradition of the MPs who represented Merthyr they really did get involved in local issues,Huw lewis does - this man ,sadly not to any noticable degree.

Trouble with Dai Havard, Chris Bryant, Wayne David and the like is that they can do and say what they like and keep getting re-elected time after time because the alternatives and any opposition in their seats is so poor.

As for the leak Dai Havard office probably added the Western Mail to his e-mail list when it was sent out, just like all the so called leaks at the moment.

Peter,

The likes of Dai Harvard are not taken seriously in Welsh Labour. He is an unreconstucted Brit Nat who opposes devolution in all its shapes and guises. He and his fellow brit nat travellers made their point at the special conference and were soundly defeated in all categories of the vote. They must learn to live with the fact that they lost and that trying to undermine the coalition is both anti democratic and disloyal to the Welsh Labour leadership.

In reality these men of the past have no influence in Cardiff Bay and if this behavoiur continues they will have little respect either. Neither the Welsh Labour or Plaid Leadership are paying any attention to them and as another contributor points out they would be much better off properly serving their constituents in the non devolved matters they were elected to oversee.

"Labour Money" eh????

Doesn't that just sum the b****rds up?

Call me old fashioned but I allways presumed it was the people's money.

I hope Plaid are now beginning to realise what they've done.
