Regulating blogs

There is already comment elsewhere in the blogosphere on the proposal by Press Complaints Commission director Tim Toulmin that there should be a voluntary code of conduct for blogs that will provide a form of redress for people angered at content.

I certainly agree with him that there should be no government regulation of the internet, as it should a place "in which views bloom". Although how exactly government would regulate something as ephemeral as the internet has yet to be established.

One thing I do know is that if regulation was possible some members of my own group and members of Glyn Davies' group would jump at the chance to apply it to each of our blogs
Comments:
Come on liberal democrats. Fight for freedom of expression. There are laws covering libel, so people have legal redress if something is damaging. Why do we need other regulation and how do you propose that it is implemented. Stand with those of us that are calling for a Voluntary Code Free Zone. Put one of the logos for the campaign on your website you can find them at www.disillusionedandbored.blogspot.com

I think that is what I said. I am opposed to regulation.

What's their problem? I think yours and Glyn's blogs are pretty fine.

I am very fussy about the appearance of my blog and try not to clutter it up with too much extraneous campaign material.
