Peerage or bust

I have just got into the Assembly after attending Peter Law's funeral. As a celebration of his life it was an astonishing experience. By the time I got to the church at 9am, the funeral procession was already winding its way around the many communities of the Blaenau Gwent constituency. Posters and leaflets had gone out earlier this week inviting people to come out and say goodbye to a genuine man-of-the people.

The Church was packed. I am told that it seats 500, but there was standing room only and possibly more outside. Tributes were led by former Labour MP, Llew Smith, whilst the priest also referred to Peter's socialism, his christianity and the way that he stood up to Labour bosses in Cardiff to fight for his local area. As you would expect in a church packed with hundreds of Welsh men and women, the singing was magnificent.

I was told at the Church that Plaid's Commons leader Elfyn Llwyd, was going to stand up in the House of Commons today and make the allegation that it was the Secretary of State for Wales, Peter Hain who offered Peter Law a peerage if he did not stand for Parliament. From the BBC website I see that this is what Mr. Llwyd did.

All of this of course, will be thrown into the mix for the two by-elections which, I believe, will now take place on 29th June.
Comments:
This is an edited comment from David. I have altered it as I am nervous of legal repercussions. Possibly too nervous:

I believe Elfyn Llwyd.

I know from personal experience... the Party in Wales and I'm looking forward to Labour getting a kicking today.

I used to vote Labour and I don't think I ever will again.

Actually, I used to be a member of the LP. I was at the Festival Hall in '97, half-crazed by the millionth play of D:Ream's 'Things can only get better'.

At first, to an extent they did. Now it's farcical and I don't really fancy the others parties. Who was suggesting compulsory voting the other day as a means of combatting voter disenchantent? That's the way to deal with it, eh? Pass a law and fine people.
