One legged duck
BBC Wales is going large on Rhodri Morgan's embarrassing performance on Question Time last night. This was a UK-wide TV programme being broadcast from Aberystwyth and featuring the First Minister of Wales. It was an opportunity to show off the best of Welsh democracy, instead we got a vacillating Labour veteran who would not venture an opinion on the key issue of the day let alone offer any leadership.
Rhodri's argument that he would not comment on whether we should have gone to war with Iraq because it is outside his range of competence as a non-MP did not stop him giving a view as to when troops should be withdrawn from the Country. He may have felt constrained by his position as First Minister but all the indications are that the real limitations on him come from the Labour Party and a desire not to contradict the Prime Minister.
If Rhodri is just going to be another Tony Blair-acolyte then maybe he should stand down now rather than wait until 2009.

The man has no principles and so much contempt for the public he'd given no thought at all to a better evasion.
With any luck his stumbling, silly replies will be played over and over again; and whenever anyone thinks of him they'll bring to mind that gutless, cynical performance. And that'll be his legacy and it's the best he deserves.
