George of the Crusaders

George Bush has claimed he was on a mission from God when he launched the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, effectively repeating his gaff of a few years ago when he announced that the war on Islamic fundamentalism was a crusade. The problem is that these voices keep putting ideas into his head! Are they speaking to Tony Blair as well?
Comments:
Your post should begin, in fact, with 'The Guardian has claimed that....'

I doubt this story is true.

The story is not a "Guardian claim" but - in fact - comes from first-hand witnesses interviewed in a forthcoming BBC TV documentary.

It sounds all too true to me.

if i can interupt simon's arguement with himself...

peter i thought you would be pleased to see this

sounds like it was a lucky escape mind!

sorry its off topic - im so ashamed

Different Simons!

The donation came in about four chunks - £100,000 on 10 Feb; £151,000 on 25 Feb; £632,000 on 30 March and £1,536,064 on 22 March. The Company was formed in March 2004 and changed its name from Hexagon 303 Ltd to 5th Avenue Partners Ltd on 11 August 2004. It was definitely trading on 11 March 2005 as it registered a rent deposit deed at that date and was most probably trading before that date. The only donations that were in question therefore was the first two of £100,000 and £151,000. The Electoral Commission has now found that this was OK too.

The problem I believe is that this is still new law to everybody and all the parties are feeling their way through the regulations that surround it. You would not believe the requirements it places on volunteer treasurers. Suffice to say that in this instance the Liberal Democrats are in the clear, despite the criticism that the party should have carried out more checks.

I am a volunteer treasurer (well , volunteeer in the sense of being unpaid, anyway) I go blogging to avoid thinking about all the paperwork, and now you've reminded me and spoilt my day! (although I am up to date at the moment!)
